We run a unique computerized order control system written specifically for us that identifies a part, produces a work order--including a camera picture and process specifications--tracks it through our plating process, and automatically produces a packing slip and invoice when the order is completed. The order information is then stored in memory by part number. When the part comes to us again, we can instantly recall the information and create a new work order (with new date and quantity). By comparing the incoming part to the picture stored in memory, we can not only verify its identity, but also tell if any significant physical changes have been made that could affect the plating process. The memory file for each part has a complete history, including every order by date and quantity—in some cases going back more than ten years.
